Season 1 Episode 6: Family Matters

Frank's group and crime take a backseat in this episode and at Joey's house, the money from his new work starts to change the household in a good way, but instead of thanking him, Joey’s mother, Maria, responds with abusive criticism. She says his absence and behavior shows that he is becoming unreliable and selfish. She switches between dependence on him and harsh emotional attacks depending on her needs. This makes Joey feel both responsible for her survival and judged for the very effort he is making to help her. He understandably removes her from his care in the short term.
