Wu Song traveled with escort officers who treated him as a brother. At Crossroads Hill, a passerby warned them against staying at Zhang Family Inn, claiming its proprietress, Sun Erniang, drugged and killed guests to make meat buns. Skeptical, Wu Song insisted on lodging there, hiding rocks in their luggage as fake valuables. Sun Erniang, beautiful and strong, attempted to drug Wu Song and his companions, but her husband Zhang Qing accidentally spoiled her first attempt. Undeterred, Sun Erniang tried again, but Wu Song feigned unconsciousness and thwarted her. A fierce fight broke out, with Zhang Qing defending both Wu Song and his wife, revealing Sun Erniang’s tragic past.
